Hawthorne Goal Unleashes Record Teddy Bear Toss

The Lions were back at Toyota Sports Center with 450 fans waiting in anticipation for the first goal, at the annual Teddy Bear Toss game as the Lions faced Cal Berkeley.  Last seasons win over CSUN set the previous Teddy Bear Record at 556, but that was about to change as just three minutes into the game, Skenderian carried the puck up the wing, passed it through his own legs to a streaking Hawthorne, who sidestepped the goalie and tucked it home.  The Bears went flying as the Lions celebrated.  Once counted, the Lions fans had done it again, as LMU collected 980 stuffed animals to share with our friends at The Richstone Foundation and Momentum4All.

Skenderian would go on to score four goals, collect three assists on the night.  The Lions led 4-1 after the first, as Patterson, Kaczmarek, and Skenderian would score.  In the second the Lions put up four more, Skenderian with two to complete his hat trick, Kurita on the power play and Hawthorne with his second of the game.  In the third the Lions would score four more, Kurita, Kampfner, Skenderian with his fourth and Nishino scored as the Lions went on to the win, 12-3.

Lissner gets the victory in net, stopping 28 of 31 of the hard charging Cal’s attempts.

The D2 Lions finish the semester with a 14-5-1 record, and we’re back in January as the Lions push towards a fourth regionals birth.
