D2: Lions Record Season Ends in Regional Finals

The Lions faced off against University of Providence on Sunday in the ACHA M2 West Regional Finals, the first time the Lions have reached this round of Regionals, and one win away from making Nationals.

The Providence Argos scored first, but the Lions came right back, as Skenderian fired home a beautiful cross ice pass from Hawthorne.  The Lions scored next to take the lead, again with Skenderian finishing an assist from Hawthorne.  The Lions held tough through the period, generating many good opportunities.  The Argos tied the game up in the late stages of the first, as the Lions found themselves in the penalty box, and it was 2-2 after the first.  In the second, the Lions Jeff lee scored early, scoring short-handed on a breakaway.  The Argos tied it up midway through the second on the power-play, and then scored twice more in the final two minutes as they took control of the momentum, and lead the Lions 5-3 after two periods.

The third period started without many chances for either team, until Jeff Lee willed his way through the Argos defense, and scored to bring the Lions back within 1, at 5-4.  As the Lions kept pushing for the tying goal, the Argos scored through a screened shot to take the two goal lead back, and eventually scored on the Lions empty net to win the game 7-4.

John Profaci played well in net, stopping 45 of 51 shots including a few great opportunities throughout the game.

The Lions record season ends with the most wins in a season in team history, highest ranking in team history and first time making the Regional Finals.
