D2 Lions: Set Single Season Wins Record in Playoff Win

The Lions had been stuck at 20 wins for two weeks, but with their opening round playoff win over CSUN, the Lions set a program best by reaching 21 wins in a season for the first time ever.  The Lions sit at 21-5-2 on the year, and head into the Semi-Final against UCLA on Saturday night.

It wasn’t easy, as the 3rd seeded Lions took on 6th Seeded CSUN in the first round, in the early game.  The Lions spent the first period turning the puck over, but did manage to score first as Kaczmarek took the pass from Hawthorne to put the Lions up 1-0.  CSUN tied it on a power play goal, and the period ended at 1-1.

In the second CSUN would score early, but Kaczmarek netted his second, to tied it.  After that CSUN would score two in quick succession and take a 4-2 lead late into the period.  The Lions would strike again, Hawthorne tipped in a point shot from MacGillivray, and the Lions trailed by 1 after two periods.

In the third the Lions came to life, scoring five goals.  Carney tied the game at 4-4, then Skenderian took the puck end to end to give the Lions the lead.  Skenderian scored again, followed by Hawthornes second, and then Kaczmarek finished off his Hat-Trick, sealing the game into the empty net.  Henry Lissner made 26 stops in the victory, and the Lions move onto the WCHC Semi-Finals.
