D2 Lions Split Weekend

In the first game of the season, the Lions traveled down to San Diego to play SDSU, a D1 ACHA program.  The Lions knew it would be one of the toughest teams to play all season, and the game did not disappoint.  It was a fast, hard hitting affair in front of a good crowd.  The Lions would score first, as MacGillivray found the back of the net from the point mid-way through the first.  SDSU would score two to finish the period, and the Lions trailed 2-1 after one.  In the second the Lions regained momentum, scoring twice.  First Martin wrapped the puck from behind the net to tie the game 2-2, and then the next shift, Kaczmarek fired a wrist shot home from the top of the circle, the Lions regained the lead.  SDSU would score the next two, and led 4-3 after 2.  In the third the Lions put up 12 shots, but couldn’t find the key to scoring, and dropped the game to D1 SDSU 6-3.

On Saturday the Lions would face CSU Fullerton, who had beaten the LMU D3 team the night before.  The Lions would score early and often.  Hawthorne would get on the board first, on a nice cross ice pass from Engstrom.  The Lions would win the game 13-1, with goals from Hawthorne, Watters, Skenderian, Kaczmarek, Lee, Sedlmayer, Cigarran and Martin.  Henry Lissner gets the win, with 18 saves.

Lions are back at it next weekend with the official Home Opener, as they host SJSU twice.
