The LMU Women’s team entered their final weekend of the season looking to put a bow on an already fantastic first year. The Lions had earlier this season travelled to Washington to play, and lost both games, so the goal for the weekend was to play fun, competitive games.
On Friday, the a burst of scoring in the middle of the first saw UW take a 1-0 lead, to be tied moments later by Sarah Gallant, her first of four on the night. Twenty seconds later Washington took the lead once again, but Ren Martino tied it the next shift, the teams were tied 2-2 after a scoring fury in the first.
The teams traded pairs of goals again in the second, as UW took a 3-2 lead, and Gallant scored back to back goals to give the Lions their first lead of the game. In the final minute, the Huskies tied the game 2-2, after two periods. In the third the Lions would score the winning goal, and finish it off with an insurance goal in the final minute, as Gallant net her fourth of the game, and the Lions won 6-4.
Saturday saw fewer goals, but the Lions would come out on top again 3-2.
Thanks to our University of Washington friends for coming down to play us in our first season! We can’t wait to play UW and more ACHA teams next season. The Lions first official season was a great success, with plenty of fun wins, a trip and lots of growth as a team. We’ll see you next season!
