Lions Can’t get it done on Opening Weekend

The Lions looked for a big weekend as they celebrated the move to their new rink for the start of the 25/26 season.

The M2 team hosted Grand Canyon, last years WCHC Champions, and GCU showed they’re still at the championship caliber even on the opening weekend, beating the Lions 9-5 and 5-3 in back to back nights.  The Lions took leads in both games, but GCU capitalized on early season mistakes from the Lions and found the back of the net in the later periods to secure the two victories.  The Lions showed promise, with great offensive chances throughout the contests.  Jeff Lee continued his scoring touch, netting multiple goals on the weekend.  Skenderian and Hawthorne also scored multiple points.  The Lions will look to get back on track next weekend as they host NAU for two games.

The M3 team also hosted GCU for two games on opening weekend.  Full of excitement for another early season for the team, the Lions struggled to gain offensive chances, while their defense held GCU off for much of both games, limiting chances.  However the Lions didn’t have enough chances to be successful, and fell in both games 4-1 and 5-1.  The M3 Lions have a week off before playing at local foe, Long Beach state.
