Lions Outlast UCLA on Senior Night

The Lions celebrated their seniors in fine fashion on Saturday night, besting UCLA 3-2 for the Lions second win over the Bruins this year.

The Lions celebrated their six seniors, Gabi Rodriguez, Chris Manzer, Spencer Knapp, Cole Montoya, Alex Swenson-Lennox and Tim Lew.

The Lions jumped out of the gate with speed, and used that speed to score their first goal of the game, as Spencer Cigarran scored on a net front scramble.  The Lions would double their lead, and Will DeLaForest poked home another loose puck, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead halfway through the first.  The Lions would keep up the pressure, but wouldn’t be able to score again that period.

In the second, UCLA scored on their own net scramble, to bring the game to 1, but the Lions answered back on the next shift, as Riley Watters crashed the net and Chris Manzer found him from behind the net.  The Lions kept their lead the rest of the period and led 3-1 after 2.

UCLA found a bit of momentum as the third progressed, and scored a power play goal halfway through the third.  The Bruins would keep up the pressure, but the Lions held tough, blocked two shots as the clock wound down to zero.

The Lions, winners of their first game (3-0), continued good vibes as they took down the Bruins.  The teams will face off one more time in the regular season, next Saturday at UCLA.
