Lions Run Over Trojans in Opener

The Lions started the season on fire, taking the first game of the Century Cup 14-2.  The Lions, led by senior captain Austin Billings (3g, 4a) and senior assistant captain Ryan Hirai (3g, 3a) broke the game wide open in the first minutes of the second period.  The team scored 3 goals in the first three minutes of the second.

LMU scored first, as Austin Billings fired the puck top shelf.  USC tied the game up soon after, as LMU took back to back penalties, USC scored on the second.  The Lions scored two late in the first to end the period 3-1.

Grad student Jason Footlick got the victory, only facing 10 shots over the first two periods.  Sophomore Henry Lissner got his first game action in net as a Lion, shutting USC out in the third.

Besides Billings and Hirai, Manzer (2g), Clem, Kilkenny (2g), Lynch, Engstrom (2g) and Brown scored for the Lions.

The Lions move to 1-0-0 on the season, and lead the Century Cup battle 1-0, with the chance to win the Century Cup in February in the next meeting between these two teams.
