Lions Topple Bruins

The Lions entered Saturday nights Family Night game looking to get on a roll, after beating USC the night before.  With a large family crowd from LMU’s Family Weekend, the Lions took the energy from the crowd and put it to use on the ice.

Jeff Lee got the Lions on the board, a power play goal on the pass from MacGillivray in the slot.  The Lions had even puck possession in the first with the Bruins, each team recording 9 shots.  But the Lions put a second goal on the board with five minutes left in the first, Hawthorne fired home a wrist shot, his first of the night.

In the second, the Lions offense held possession and put up four goals on 19 shots.  McIlwain scored his first of the night midway through the 2nd, and then the Lions poured it on, with Tangri scoring on a point shot, then McIlwain and Hawthorne finding the back of the net for their 2nd goals of the night respectively.  The Lions led 6-0 after the second.

In the third the pace pulled back, with UCLA getting one past senior goalie John Profaci.  The Lions would answer late in the third as Jack Hogan scored to finalize the game, with the Lions winning 7-1, in the first of three matchups this year between LMU and UCLA.
