The M3 Lions were poised to celebrate as they hosted Senior Night. The team was celebrating its four seniors, Donovan Felton, Colton Marcy, Dylan Slaysman and Marc Baldwin. Following the senior ceremony, the Lions had a big test ahead of them, a win moved the team up to a higher playoff position.
And the seniors shined on the night, as the Lions never trailed in the game as Senior Donovan Felton fired home the puck to give the Lions the lead late in a close checking first period. The Lions doubled their lead a few minutes later, as Brown, the teams leading scorer, scored to give the Lions a 2-0 lead after the first.
In the second, UCI was able to score halfway through, cutting the Lions lead to 2-1. Senior Colton Marcy was in net, and made big saves early in the first and the first half of the second periods, as UCI pressured the Lions defense in spurts throughout the game. The Lions offense got back on track as Senior Captain Marc Baldwin scored to give the Lions a two goal lead again, leading 3-1, but UCI scored in the final minute to give the Lions a 3-2 lead after 2.
UCI came out with pressure early in the third, but it was stymied by Donovan Felton’s second goal of the game to give the Lions a 4-2 lead. Though UCI pressured throughout the rest of the period, the Lions defense, and Marcy, stood strong, and Donovan Felton cemented his Senior Night by firing the puck into the empty net to secure the Hat-Trick and the 5-2 LMU win.
Felton’s Senior Night was huge, he entered the game with only three goals to his name at LMU, all the previous season. He had not found the goal column this season until his breakout Hat-Trick on senior night.
