The Lions qualified as the #6 seed in the M3 West Coast Hockey Conference playoffs, winning their final four conference games to shoot up the standings. The Lions travelled to Flagstaff, Arizona for the first round of the M3 conference playoffs.
The Lions faced off against a known foe, Arizona State, in the first round. The Lions earlier travelled to ASU in the fall, losing both games to a strong ASU program, but the Lions team had improved since then and the Lions were excited for the big opportunity.
The Lions got on the board first, as team leader, James Brown found the net on a centering pass, and the Lions led 1-0. And while it felt good for the moment, the Sun Devils were a fierce opponent, who scored on the next shift to tie the game 1-1. The Lions received a major power play late in the first period, and the Lions pressed to find the advantage, but were unable to score, as the teams left the ice tied 1-1. But as the game got underway in the second, ASU took control, and ran away with the game, winning it 9-1. Both Han and Marcy played in net, a total of 82 shots on net.
The M3 Lions season ended with the loss, but it was a fantastic year for this second year team. Making the WCHC playoffs seemed a long shot at the halfway point, but this program found its stride and beat out our local opponents for a spot in conference playoffs. While the team graduates a few of our great teammates, the program is excited for next season!
